Finding Your First Job with Only Grade 10

Many people leave school before finishing matric, but that does not mean you cannot find work. Many companies hire people with Grade 10 for entry-level jobs like cleaner, general worker, shop assistant, car wash worker, or construction labourer. These jobs help you gain experience and start earning an income.

Finding Your First Job with Only Grade 10

Many people leave school before finishing matric. This can make finding a job feel difficult, but it is still possible to get work. Many employers hire people with Grade 10 for entry-level jobs. These jobs help you earn money and build experience for better opportunities later.

Some of the most common jobs available are general worker, cleaner, shop assistant, packer, car wash worker, waiter or waitress, kitchen helper, construction labourer, warehouse assistant, and delivery helper. These jobs usually require someone who is willing to work hard, arrive on time, and follow instructions.

Step 1: Prepare a simple CV.
Your CV can be one page. Write your name, phone number, where you live, and the highest grade you passed (Grade 10). Also add any skills you have, such as cleaning, helping customers, lifting stock, or working with tools. If you helped at a family business, church, or community event, include that as experience.

Step 2: Get your documents ready.
Most employers will ask for a copy of your ID and your CV. Some may also ask for proof of address. Print several copies so you can apply at many places. Keep them clean and organised in a simple folder.

Step 3: Apply in the right places.
Visit shops, supermarkets, restaurants, warehouses, car washes, construction sites, and small businesses in your area. Ask to speak to the manager and politely say you are looking for work. You can also check Facebook groups, community WhatsApp groups, and notice boards for job posts.

Step 4: Prepare for a simple interview.
Dress neatly and arrive on time. Be polite and respectful. Employers often want to see that you are reliable and willing to learn. Speak clearly and show that you are ready to work hard.

Step 5: Start small and build experience.
Your first job may not pay a lot. That is normal. The goal is to gain work experience and good references. When employers see that you are reliable, you may get better opportunities.

Do not give up when you get rejected.
Rejection happens to everyone looking for work. It does not mean you will never find a job. Sometimes there is simply no space available at that time. Keep applying and stay positive.

Stay motivated while job hunting.
Try to apply at 5 to 10 places every week. Tell friends and family that you are looking for work. Many people find jobs through someone they know. Your first job is often the hardest to get, but once you have experience, new opportunities become easier to find. Keep trying and believe in yourself. 💪
